Why software developers (or probably their promoters) use non appropriate keywords to promote their software?
What this means. Is the keyword “porno” related to mathematical calculations? Or “adult” to schema development? All these are just examples but they are uncovering the thing which some people to attract a bit of traffic (not thinking about its quality).
How we look placing mathematical software with such funny keywords? You’re quite right - like idiots. But we won’t. So we strart to remove such strange software from our web site.
Gaming software go to the junk too - often they are malware source, cloned too much, so they are garbage in our opinion.
Also we will remove software containing sinful information *.
And we suggest to do the same to others.
* - violating Google AdSense Policy

People doing shareware know about software registration systems. There are a number of them: Digital River (joinung such companies as Regnow, ShareIT, Regsoft, Esellerate), Plimus and some others. The simplest way is to offer affiliate data (affiliate ID) for publishers to place the “Buy now” link on the web site. It works. And it works not bad with good traffic like our web site has. The additional way is to use an own ads network rotating affiliated programs information.
But the most delicious thing is the trialware links those offered by Regnow. What this means. Software authors place the special link in their Regnow account which allows surfers to download the file with included affiliate information. When the user will decide to buy the program pressing the button (or menu item) “Register this copy (or something like this)” Regnow will consider the affiliate ID of the publisher.
Using this feature we increased our affiliate share essentially. Therefore we are addressing to the software developers using Regnow: use this trialware links, increase your sales, increase our affiliate earnings :).

Is you can read at the title we have been preparing some tool which will be available for public usage in a short time. We test now our contextual advertising network with our affiliate products. After we ensure that it works fine this will be available for software developers to promote their products at least on our web site.

How often you receive claims that your web site contains information with protected parts without permission?
We did receive a number of such claims. Some of them were too strange because they were from the information owners :). Such issues were solved very quickly.
But the other category is much unpleasant. They are related with people working on names belonging to others. The last story is about POST IT program by 3M. As it appears a number of developers use this protected name for their programs without any permission from 3M. It’s not a good story because we spent a lot of time for the investigation (which is still not complete by the way).
Resuming: guys, respect foreign property, check please whether some name which you would like to use in your project is protected or free to use without requests for permissions.

Yes, we can say such words about us ourselves because we have been continuing to drop garbage from our web site. It makes cleaner as our web site as WWW as well.
1,5K items were dropped. What and why?
The first category consists from exams promoting materials. We are sure no one dispute whether they are software or now. Let teachers promote their exams via appripriate resources. But now they are banned to post something at QArchive.org.
The second one - spam oriented software. Do you like e-mail addresses extractors? We guess you understand what they do: they poll web pages, take your addresses and then use (or sell for that) to send spam. So, we are almost sure you like this our action.
The other garbage category is repeating examples of partial programmes. It was done by different reasons: some people did that by a mistake, some ones by intention. Nevertheless all that repeating items are garbage and should be deleted. By the way, exams promoters used that practics very actively.
Well, we are on the right way which is still far from its end.

Today our web site has got freedom from more than 17K of bad programs. We have found about 9,5K of fake products, about 3K belonged to other software archives. In fact they are fake products as well because they are not some smart software but just a chunk of bytes those are convenient to receive incoming links from other archives by submitting their PAD files to ASP Shareware. About 2K products were deleted because they are no longer supported. There are also some other reasons for deletion but we listed big main ones.
The next stage - to filter software by ethical characters. This means that all programs or similarities will be deleted if they are about piracy, pornography, casinos etc.

We have changed our algorythm of “Users Choice” award calculation. Today we have 255 chosen programs from 54800. The basic criteria of this shower definition is people opinions as it was before. Any attempts to make it higher artificially get cancelled because all users opinions have being moderated.
We would make the selection algorythm much and much stronger. We have been monitoring all the content of our web site to drop all non-actual products (fake, unsupported) to our sandbox.

Since we have started our cleaning action (about 2 weeks ago) we have found about 13K programs or software similarities to be deleted. Take a notice please: first we take programs developerd by concrete developer, check all characters and then mark them to be alive or deleted. After that we perform the additional checking to be sure what will be a future of those programs. Then we press a magic button :). Their pages on our web site get deleted.
Nevertheless they won’t die at all - they go to the sandbox. And if we delete some program by a mistake (Errare humanium est!) and author can explain our mistake and proof that that was a good product we will get it back.
We use self developed technology to check good or bad software. And soon we will offer our results for people. Soon!

During of 1,5 years of QArchive.org development we have been constantly getting confirmation - the success if guaranteed if you make a product which you will use in parallel with your potential product users. This means that that one is necessary not just to earn quick money and forget it after a couple of months. But if you want to have a popular and stable product you have to use it simultaneously with your clients.
